5 Reasons Why Freelancers Need a Blog

Why Freelancers Need a Blog

Are you a mom or dad who works as a freelancer? Do you have a blog? Worried that you’ll be considered just another mommy/daddy with a blog? Because let’s face it. Mommy/daddy bloggers don’t have the respect they should get.

But, the good news is, just because you’re a mom or dad who wants to blog, it doesn’t mean that you need to blog about your lifestyle, crafts, or couponing (unless you want to, of course!).

If you’re a freelancer of any kind, whether you’re a writer, designer, social media manager, virtual assistant, or any other type of service, you should have a blog. And here are 5 reasons why:

1. You Have a Ready-Made Portfolio

Of course, this depends on the type of freelance work you do. But if you’re a writer, you can use your posts as samples of your work. If you’re a designer, showcase your portfolio along with posts about how you went about designing your latest work.

2. You Can Show Off Your Expertise

You can use a blog as a way to write about your industry’s trends and offer tips and tricks for your potential clients. It will help them see why they need to hire you!

3. You Can Bring in New Clients

Having a blog for your website will help drive more traffic to it. Google loves it when a website is updated regularly, and posting new articles at least once a week will do just that. Of course, there’s more to it than just writing a post and hoping people will read it (i.e., social media, SEO, etc.), but it can definitely help your website gain more traction!

4. You’re Creating a Personal Brand

By having a blog, you can help create a personal brand or look and feel that people will associate with your work. That’s why it’s important to think long and hard about what name your business should have as well as a logo to go along with it. You can get a decent logo for a low cost on Fiverr.com. Just be sure to check out the reviews and portfolios of the designers before paying for the gig.

5. You Will Build Connections

When you have a blog, you must promote yourself on social media and forums. In the process of doing so, you will find that you build a network of potential clients as well as fellow freelancers. Why is this important? Other freelancers may be able to send work your way, and vice versa. It’s also a way to build friendships online, because, let’s face it. Freelancing at home can be lonely, and not everyone understands the challenges that freelancing can present.

With that said, getting started with a blog can be a daunting task. If you feel that this is the case, then please check out these posts for pointers on getting started:

  1. Hi Starratt,
Indeed a freelancer needs a blog. If not for anything, it is good for branding and building a portfolio.

A blog helps to market a website and it is a point where relationship is built.

The reasons you have shared here are on point. Yes, its time for freelancers start considering blogging!
